Kennebunk High School Theater, Inc |
a state of the art community funded performing arts center for the Kennebunks and
surrounding towns |
Mission Statement: Kennebunk High School Theater, Inc. is committed to providing performance and rehearsal spaces that meet the needs of the MSAD71 District and the communities of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. These spaces will be the focal point for the vibrant performing arts programs that now exist in the schools (theatrical plays, musicals, and instrumental and vocal performances) and in the communities (music performances by River Tree Center for the Arts and theatric and music performances by Seaglass Performing Arts and others), as well as provide for future development of performance opportunities. The existing performance space is no longer suitable, (lack of ventilation, electrical, seating deterioration, etc. Community groups consciously defer to other venues, often outside the community, because of the inadequacy of the existing performance space. Dr. Tom Farrell - MSAD 71 Superintendent Says "Kennebunk High School has an outstanding theater program with very inadequate facilities. After years of struggling to keep the facilities functional, it is common knowledge that it is no longer cost effective to continue this practice. In addition, our students deserve much more than the bare minimum in facilities, when they are so dedicated to excellence in the arts, including drama and music. A group of concerned community members have decided to address this ongoing issue. The KHS Theater, Inc. has embarked on a fund raising campaign to build a new theater. They have already employed and funded an architectural firm to draw up the plans for this theater, based on their findings that resulted from focus groups, conversations with staff and students, community presentations and over two years of discussions and input from the Theater Committee and outside experts. This is a very exciting undertaking, but one that is huge and needs many supporters. We encourage community members to become involved. The rewards will be immeasurable, and the results will benefit our children and community for years to come." |
