History of Project For the past sixty-six years Kennebunk High School has utilized the current auditorium facility in many facets. From its beginnings as a basketball gym and cafeteria to its present use as an auditorium, this facility has been asked to change multiple times to serve the needs of its high school and community. The space is no longer able to handle this. Over the last 20 years the district has been unable to provide the necessary funding for renovations and basic upkeep. Under the watchful eyes of the current Band Director the auditorium has been kept in a useable condition with monies received through the plays, musicals and the numerous fundraising events that have been put on each year. A group of parents and community members felt it was time to look into the feasibility of renovating the current facility and/or building a new auditorium. This group known as the Kennebunk Theater Renovation Committee took it upon themselves to fundraise $31,500. This money was to be used to hire an architect to do a feasibility study of the current building, its health, its current uses and needs. After a year of community forums and information gathering the firm of DRA has come up with the best proposal for Kennebunk High School and community at large. The next step is to raise $25,000.00 from community support to hire a fund raising company. This company will have the task of conducting a feasibility study to see if our towns can indeed support this endeavor financially. Your continued support is needed.
